Planetary Patterns, Shaping

Definition of Planetary Patterns:

Descriptive of the shape or visual arrangement of planets in a horoscope. Marc Edmund Jones identified seven different patterns: the Bowl, Bucket, Bundle, Locomotive, See-Saw, Splash and Splay. Each shaping type (shape) is linked to specific astrological conditions and a particular interpretational focus. Shaping is an alternate term for planetary patterns. A less common synonym is planetary pictures. See also Bowl, Bucket, Bundle, Locomotive, See-Saw, Splash, Splay.

Planetary patterns are sometimes equated with aspect patterns, but they’re not the same thing. Aspect patterns are formed by specific degrees of orbs between planets, whereas planetary patterns refer to the overall visual arrangement of planets in the chart, regardless of specific aspects.
