What Default House System Do We Use For Reports?

(These defaults are in effect only when you don’t select your choice of house system.)

For all of our reports, the “Default” house system will be based on your birth city’s latitude, and based on the zodiac system used. This allows us to use the most appropriate house system for you.

Reports that use the Tropical zodiac have different house system defaults than reports that use the Sidereal zodiac.

Default House System For Reports That Use the Tropical Zodiac

All of our default reports use the Tropical zodiac, unless it specifically says “Sidereal” in the title. So, if it’s not mentioned, it uses the Tropical Zodiac and this default house system:

(Whether your birth city is North or South doesn’t matter, just look at the degrees of the latitude of your birth city.)

• If the birth city’s latitude is from zero to 41.999 degrees, Campanus Houses will be the default house system for that chart.

• If the birth city’s latitude is from 42 to 58.999 degrees, Placidus Houses will be the default house system for that chart.

• If the birth city’s latitude is at 59 degrees or greater, Equal Houses will be the default house system for that chart.

For reports that have two people’s birth dates, such as relationship reports, both of the birth city latitudes must fit the rule. For example, both birth city latitudes must be from zero to 41.999 in order for Campanus Houses to be the default. If even one person’s birth city latitude is 42 or greater, the default house system will be Placidus if both birth city latitudes are not higher than 58.999, or Equal Houses if even one birth city latitude is 59 or greater.

For reports that compare two house systems, such as the Relationship Report, the default second house system will be:

• If the main house system is Campanus, the second house system will be Placidus.

• If the main house system is Placidus, the second house system will be Equal Houses.

• If the main house system is Equal Houses, the second house system will be Whole Sign Houses.

Default House System For Reports That Use the Sidereal Zodiac

For our Sidereal reports, the default house system is:

• With the default Lahiri ayanamsa, Whole Sign Houses will be the default house system.

• If you select Fagan-Bradley ayanamsa, Equal Houses will be the default house system.

• If you select Raman ayanamsa, Whole Sign Houses will be the default house system.

• If you select Krishnamurti ayanamsa, Whole Sign Houses will be the default house system.
