Grand Square, Grand Cross

Definition of Grand Square:

An aspect configuration in which four planets, each in a different sign of the same quadruplicity, form mutual squares. Much tension is generated among planets forming this pattern. If signs are mixed (aspects within orb but not in signs of the same quadruplicity), the impact associated with a grand square is somewhat diminished.

Synonyms:

Grand cross is commonly used an alternate term for grand square but grand cross more accurately describes a grand square in which the four planets in square aspect also form two oppositions, thus creating a cross formation in the horoscope. Depending on the orb allowed for the oppositions, a grand square can happen without the formation of oppositions. All grand crosses are grand squares, but not all grand squares are grand crosses.
