Synastry Overlays: Sun in First Through Seventh Houses

Synastry Overlays- Sun in the Houses

By Corinne Lane         8 Comments

These are synastry overlay interpretations for the Sun in the partner’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th houses. (See instead: Sun overlays in 8th–12th houses.)

Sun in 1st House Synastry Overlay

The Sun in the partner’s first house of a synastry overlay creates a familiar feeling between the two of you. The Sun person really likes the house person, overall. You like their style, appearance, and approach to life. You feel like you’re on the same page, like they really get you. You can be yourself around them in a way that feels very natural. You drop your guard around them.

The house person enjoys the admiration and approval from the Sun person. The house person gets invigorated by the Sun person. The house person feels like the Sun person lights up their life.

The Sun in the first house makes both partners feel comfortable and positive about each other. You both increase each other’s self-esteem. You bring out the best in each other. This is a common synastry overlay for marriage.

Sun in 2nd House Synastry Overlay

The Sun in the partner’s second house of a synastry overlay makes the house person a valuable asset to the Sun person. The Sun person sees something of value in the house person. However, this is not necessarily romantic or intimate (although it can be). It may just be that Sun person thinks that the house person can help them achieve some goal.

The house person gets the sense that the Sun person wants something from them. You (the house person) may give in to their demands even though you sense that the attraction is not based on romance. Depending on the individual characteristic of the house person, this overlay can cause them to feel used. For “serving types” such as Virgo or Pisces types, this will not pose a big problem. For some, this overlay can actually enhance your self-esteem. You may like feeling that you’re needed for something. However, for many, this would be a difficult challenge to overcome.

For both partners with this overlay, there may be some common goal that you’re working towards. In this case, the sun in the second house overlay will create a positive environment for the two of you to work to wards a profitable goal. You’re both willing to work together.

A marriage is not impossible with this overlay. A marriage between partners with this overlay will just be more focused on practical matters, and this works for some people.

Sun in 3rd House Synastry Overlay

The Sun in the partner’s third house of a synastry overlay creates a comfortable atmosphere in your relationship. You’ll enjoy talking to each other about the trivial details your day, and you will not find this as boring as other couples may find it.

The Sun person sees the house person as having good common sense. You (Sun) think the house person is brilliant. You feel like the house person goes about things the right way. You may even consider the house person predictable, but you don’t mind it because your relationship also feels right and comfortable.

If you’re the house person, the Sun person really gets your gears going. You feel mentally stimulated, and even smarter, around the Sun person. You may get so stimulated by the Sun person that your heart rate may increase while they’re in your presence. The Sun person energizes your nervous system.

Although this overlay isn’t focused on romance, this overlay adds a positive charge to any relationship.

Sun in 4th House Synastry Overlay

The Sun in the partner’s fourth house of a synastry overlay creates a deep sense of familiarity. Even when you first meet, you feel like you already know each other.

The Sun person has a mysterious feeling in the pit of their stomach that you two have some history together. You belong together. You just know it. You (Sun) feel deeply bonded to the house person. You feel very protective of the house person.

The house person also feels this bond. If you’re the house person, you find that you trust the Sun person deeply, without any guard. You get a deep sense of security just from being around the Sun person. When you’re with the Sun person, you feel like no one can harm you. The interesting part is, they make you feel secure even if they’re financially broke. The security here comes from a gut feeling, although it’s not any less real.

This is a very strong synastry overlay for marriage and long-term relationships. You both feel committed to sticking together. It will be easy for the two of you to set up house together. With this overlay, there is a strong desire to live together.

Sun in 5th House Synastry Overlay

The Sun in the partner’s fifth house of a synastry overlay is the “WOW” overlay.

You (the Sun person) see the house person as a source of pleasure, enjoyment, and delight. You see them as a person with whom you can enjoy yourself. You feel that life will be joyful as long as you’re with them. This overlay gives the rare, and lucky, experience of feeling real pleasure by being with another person.

They just fill your senses with so much pleasure, it can only be defined without logic. It’s like the feeling of listening to a nice bit of music, or inhaling the scent of flowers, or the feel of grass on bare feet. The house person arouses this feeling of pleasure in you.

You define “beauty” according to the house person. Whatever they look like, whatever they act like, whatever they do, you find it beautiful.

The house person enjoys how much the Sun person adores them. In return, you have a great love for the Sun person.

Both partners enjoy the romance in this relationship. You both really love each other, romantically. Your dates and outings are creative and fun. You enjoy each other, a lot. You enjoy making love. You may also want to have kids together.

Although, keep in mind that this synastry overlay doesn’t, by itself, ensure a long-term, or even a serious, relationship. This is a fun and enjoyable relationship, and there is real love here, but there must be some other synastry connections between the two of you to ensure a long-term relationship.

The Sun person is wearing rose-colored glasses here, so it’s likely that you’re overlooking the house person’s flaws. Is this a positive or a negative thing? That is for you to decide.

Sun in 6th House Synastry Overlay

The Sun in the partner’s sixth house of a synastry overlay compels one person to be submissive to the other. Not submissive like a slave, but rather in an organizational way like a boss/assistant relationship.

One person feels obligated to obey the other in order to get some work done. Your relationship seems to revolve around getting some work done. Together, you happen to very productive.

The Sun person tends to be the one to fall into the subordinate role. Whether you (Sun) are okay with this or not depends on your individual characteristics. (These roles can be reversed.)

The house person may feel obligated to micro-manage parts of the relationship, although they really enjoy the Sun’s helpfulness. (These roles can be reversed.)

This theme of “work and helpfulness” is not entirely bad in a relationship. Of course, it’s best for a work-related relationship, but it can work in a marriage as well. This is the kind of relationship in which you each do your share of the household chores, and your household runs so smoothly that its the envy of your neighbors. What’s wrong with that?

Sun in 7th House Synastry Overlay

When the Sun is in the partner’s seventh house of a synastry overlay, you are both deeply moved by each other.

You get a clear sense that you fit together, you belong together, that you’re complementary opposites of each other.

The feeling here is so strong that you may feel like no one else will fit with you as well as you do with each other.

This overlay, more than any other, really makes two people feel as if they are united as one. You are not simply a pair, but rather you complete one whole.

You welcome each other as if you’re welcoming some long-lost part of you.

The danger here is that your individual personalities can be lost. When this happens, each of you may rebel against each other as you struggle to regain your individuality.

And here is the main theme of Sun in the 7th house: a love/hate relationship.

In your struggle to preserve your individuality, you may be driven to express your unique qualities in most extreme ways. For example, if you’re normally only quiet in other relationships, this Sun-in-the-7th relationship will drive you to extreme passivity and silence. If you have any tendency toward bossiness, it will come out full blown in this relationship.

You’re both subconsciously trying to prove that you’re your own person separate from the relationship. But you do this with extreme behaviors that can cause more harm than good.

You complete each other. You each feel like the other person is a big presence in your life. This means that they can really get in your head. You can lash out violently because you feel intruded upon by this person who seems right at home in your private mind. Needless to say, this makes for great sexual relations.

Like the yin and yang, love and hate are two sides of the same coin. You can’t really have one without the other.

The secret is to find a balance (7th house is all about balance) between being harmonious pieces of a whole, and being individuals.

This type of relationship works best if you’re both committed in an intimate partnership. If you’re not intimately committed, you’ll both find yourselves really stressed out in this relationship.
